Quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 confirmed for 2011

Leaked slide reveals details
Quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 confirmed for 2011

Remember the leaked slide from Nvidia's MWC presentation that stated a 3D Tegra 2 was on its way in spring 2011? Well, the full slide has now been uncovered and it also confirms the availability of the quad-core Tegra 3 in "Fall 2011".

There were numerous reports last week suggesting that the Santa Clara based chip specialist will use Mobile World Congress 2011 to announce to the world its next-gen platform - Tegra 3 - based on a quote from Tegra general manager Mike Rayfield who said: "I'm going to come pretty close to my cadence of a launch every year. It will be in production around the same time as my competitors' first dual-cores will".

And now the slide confirms what we all suspected. And it also confirms some juicy spec details including that the Tegra 3 will pack four Cortex A9 general computing cores, and that it will have a GPU that Nvidia states as three times quicker than Tegra 2.

With samples having been made available to vendors in Q410, there is also a chance we could see some Tegra 3 demos at MWC. Exciting stuff.

Pocket-lint will be over at the expo in Barcelona in full force next month, so expect to see all the tablet and smartphone news as it breaks, as well as plenty of hands-on action.
