Mobile World: Real Networks' pitch to wireless carriers

BARCELONA, Spain -- Seattle digital media company Real Networks showed several services at Mobile World Congress on Sunday aimed at smartphones. The company is pitching the new services to wireless carriers as a way to get new subscribers and keep existing ones from leaving.

The company started talking about Unifi, a personal cloud service, at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. Vodafone Germany will offer the service by June, the company said today. The service stores photos, music and videos in the cloud on remote data centers and people can access the collection from the PC, smartphone and other devices connected to the Internet.

Other services the company is pitching are the Ringback Tone Open Gateway, which will be available in the fall; Helix Rich Media Client for mobile TV; and HTTP Live Streaming that allows content built for Apple's iPad and iPhone to be played on Android devices.
