Browser based app announced
Facebook has launched Facebook for Every Phone, a web based app that lets even the dumbest of phones go social.
And what's more, the social network has managed to tempt carriers across the world into giving users free access to the service (for 90 days, at least), including Three here in Blighty.
The free access is possible as the new app is optimised to use less data than other Java apps or mobile sites, so won't eat up much download data.
The app itself looks very similar to the one that Android and iOS users are used to, with a tile based homescreen containing links to popular features such as News Feed, Inbox, Photos and Messages and it also lets you upload photos and find friends from your phone’s contacts.
Available on any Java enabled handset (more than 2,500 phones then), the app is available now over at m.facebook.com, or by simply typing d.facebook.com/install into your mobile browser's address bar. You can also find it in various app stores including GetJar, Appia, and Mobile Weaver.
Google+, your move...
