Sponsored: Hack the World's Fai

Fifty years ago, right about now, the US first launched a man into space, and the "space age" really began. Shortly afterwards came Seattle's World's Fair, "Century21", with a focus on space, science, and the future. Fifty years later and that future has arrived, though whether it's quite as predicted in 1962 is another issue. Not sure anyone predicted iPhones and Netflicks, and almost everyone no doubt thought we'd all have jetpacks and flying cars by now. Funny how things turn out.

In 2012, Next50 will celebrate the World's Fair's 50th anniversary, and look forward to the next 50 years of science, technology and more.

Seattle's mobile and web developer community have the chance to get involved in the celebrations by building location based apps and games (and more) exploring the site of the Fair, Seattle Center, at Amped, this Saturday.

Best of all, one or more apps built on the day are in with a chance to be part of the Next50 event, and be used by tends of thousands of visitors to Next50, a great opportunity for you and your team to showcase your skills.

Sure, the World's Fair is increasingly Jetsons retro chic, more remembered ironically by the likes of the Simpsons, but that's all part of the fun - perhaps even some design insipiration for your app or game?

On the day, we'll provide great food, amazing mentors, inspiration, power and wifi - everything you need to build something awesome. We then wrap it all up with a great party, and loads of prizes. And did we mention it's all free, thanks to our fantastic partners? All you have to do is RSVP, then up turn - by yourself, or with a team.

Amped events are always a lot of fun, and produce some amazing results. Come see for yourself.
