The next version of Microsoft's operating system Windows will come in different versions, according to a Tuesday report by Bloomberg.
Four versions will run on chips designed by ARM for mobile and tablet computers, the Bloomberg story said and they will not run older software designed for Windows.
Microsoft's decision to design Windows to run on ARM chips was a significant breakdown in the relationship between Microsoft and Intel and the companies' stronghold over the PC industry.
Another version of Windows will run on Intel chips, according to Bloomberg. The report picked up on comments made by Intel software head Renee James in a company presentation on Tuesday.
