Despite being nominated for eight statues, The Social Network (aka the Facebook movie) failed to scoop any of the major Academy Awards - losing out to The King's Speech in both the Best Picture and Best Director categories

David Fincher's adaptation of Ben Mezrich's book (The Accidental Billionaires) picked up four awards at the 2011 Golden Globes, including the top one for the best motion picture and was therefore considered one of the front runners for Oscars success.?

It was, at one point, the odds-on favourite for Best Picture, but the only awards it did end up winning were for Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin), Best Original Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross), and Best Editing (Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter).

Still, three Oscars for a film starring Justin Timberlake still has to be considered a massive success, right?

The Social Network was released in October 2010 and took almost $200 million at the box office - on a budget of just $40 million.

If you haven't seen it, go rent it at once - it's great. The best bit is when the Mark Zuckerberg character has a summer working at a fairground getting stoned and goes out killing zombies with Woody Harrelson.

At least we think that's in the Social Network - Jesse Eisenberg seems to be in everything at the moment and it's hard not to get his films mixed up.
